An empty glass

“God, give me the strength to change the things I can.
The courage to accept the things that I cannot change.
And the wisdom to know the difference.”

A person that sees the glass half empty is a pessimist.
A person that sees the glass half full is an optimist.
What is a person that sees the empty glass as full?
What is the person that sees the full glass as empty?

Remember the time when money was easy and every day was better and brighter?
Remember when the skies were blue and all we could see were opportunities growing?
Remember when the glass was overflowing?
What did you see then?

What do you see now?
Do you see your glass empty or full?

In the dead of winter do you see the promises of spring?
In the ashes of your burning wings do you see the phoenix rising?
In the sorrow and pain of today do you see the hope and joy of tomorrow?
Do you see the opportunity in the emptiness of your glass?

People tell me:
“You are a fool, rocking the boat!
You’ll never change anything with your questioning.
Give us the answers; that’s what we want and we need.
Give us your wisdom, you so proclaim you have found!”

What is wisdom outside life, but an empty word?
How are the sacred texts to give you light if you don’t burn them?
What is your wisdom and your money good for, if you don’t spend them?
What are all my answers good for if you don’t question life?

It's been my experience that when it comes to questions about life, there are many different answers. In the end, it's all about perception.

Thank you buddha.

I personally don't like the "god grant me..." quote - too many people use it as an excuse to shove their noses in and interfere with things that are none of their business and to just ignore the things they can't.

With the glass of milk: some see it half empty, some half full - i just assume the milk is sour! (joke)

A glass half empty can always be refilled. This world needs some serious boat rocking.

At times in my life I stand on the half-full side and then on the half-empty. Such is the paradox of life. But, I think that you capture a rather profound truth in amongst all of that - you can't show others. They have to find it for themselves.

Thank you!

Isn't question really about potentials and possibilites? If the liquid in the glass is at the halfway mark, wishing it had more will not make it so and seeing beauty in the liquid's color does not mean it is drinkable, no?

Is this the glass doing all the comparing, or what? Maybe a glass half full is just half a glass.

@ Talon – It comes down to the fact that “reality” is the only truth and “experience” is the only knowledge we have, everything else if you will pardon my French is BS, including the here blog :)

@ Diomedies – You are too kind. Thanx!

@ Pixie – Don’t get me started.
People will use any excuse to get into your life and any excuse not to fix theirs before changing yours.
I like the sour milk angle. It gives a totally new perspective to the saying.

@ Aggie – That is the ultimate truth. You have to find your own path.
There have never been and there will never be another Buddha walking on the same path.

@ Diego – You will stop growing the moment you stop learning and you stop learning the moment you stop asking questions.
The quest is not to find an answer as the destination is not the point of the journey.
The truth will be always the same. It has never changed since the beginning of time.
The only thing that is constantly changing is how we see and relate to that reality.

@ Ted – The glass it is what it is :)

Whether you see the glass as half full or half empty, you can always change the way you see the glass. You have the choice to change the perspective. We can ask, why do weesee the glass as half empty or we can ask how can we see the glass as half full.
